Professor Sean Patton brings a rare combination of military discipline and technical precision to Legion Jiu Jitsu. Originally from Lawrence, KS, Sean spent 14 years in the US Army, including service with the 5th Special Forces Group. A West Point graduate, he holds the Army Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, and led his Soldiers through 22 months of combat.
Sean began training Jiu-Jitsu in 2009 at Derby City MMA in Louisville, KY under Professor Nick "Chewy" Albin. As a former Division I wrestler at West Point, he was drawn to the complexity and competitive demands of jiu-jitsu. He has also trained boxing and Muay Thai, and competed professionally in MMA.
As a professor, Sean believes jiu-jitsu improves the life of everyone who commits to it. The struggle, the adversity, the team bonds, the humility, the wins and losses: he sees it all as the forge that makes you a better human. He loves watching confidence grow in his students as they develop as martial artists and as people. He is happily married to his best friend, Madison.
Accomplishments: 2019 IBJJF Masters World Champion (Brown Belt), 2018 IBJJF Masters World Championship 2nd Place (Purple Belt), Multiple IBJJF Open Championship titles, 11-4 Professional Grappling Record.
